About this Item
We offer a signed etching by Armin Landeck. The plate is 8 x 5 ⅞ deeply impressed on ivory wove paper that measures 11 ⅛ x 9 ⅛ . The etching is monogrammed in the plate LA and signed under the plate line in graphite: Landeck imp. In this architectural portrait of a humble woodstove, Landeck s patent, humanized mark-making harmonizes with efficient and elegant ethos of Shaker design. Armin Landeck (1905-1984) was born in Crandon, Wisconsin. He studied at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and the Art Students League. After his studies, he traveled extensively in Europe with his new wife. The architecture was a potent source of inspiration for his return to America. Landeck taught at the Brearly School on the Upper East Side until his retirement in the 1950 s. He lived in Connecticut. His work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and the Library of Congress, among many others. Condition: There is a small un-inked area in the stove, likely from the original print run, and there are two pieces of framing tape at the upper corners on recto, otherwise the print is in very good condition with full margins.
