The Glenlivet Distillery is the only Scottish distillery allowed to call itself THE Glenlivet and has done since 1880 due to other distilleries calling their whisky Glenlivet even though they were not situated in ‘the glen’. The water for this distillery is taken from Josies Well which is a local spring near the distillery. This distillery was founded in 1824 completed in 1858, it currently produces 10,200,000 litres of whisky every year and most of that goes into 6,000,000 bottles of The Glenlivet Single Malt which is Americas largest selling single malt. The rest of the whisky produced is used on owners Pernod Ricard’s blended whiskies. The name The Glenlivet is one of the most renowned whiskies in the world. There are a huge range of bottlings and the rarer ones end up in auction and are a big choice for collectors.

You should expect hazelnuts, flowers and soft fruits, vanilla and the wonderful character taken from the American Oak in which they mature this whisky.

North Star Spirits is an independent bottler based in Glasgow, Scotland. They pride themselves on bottling the finest single malt Scotch whisky, blended whisky and blended malt Scotch whisky. Producing artisan single cask whisky from various regions of Scotland as well as bottling rums, gins and Bourbon whiskey. All products are small batch, bottled at cask strength.

This North Star bottling was distilled at the Glenlivet Distillery in December 1981. It was matured for nearly four decades in an ex Bourbon American oak Hogshead. Bottled as part of the Cask Series 10 only 78 bottles were produced with a much smaller amount making it to Australia. Bottled at 49.1% abv.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh buttered croissants, banoffee pie and pink pearl apples.

Palate: White pepper on toast with a side of vanilla ice cream.

Finish: Slight menthol and eucalyptus, floral gums and pear drops.
